Lot 28 Matthew Anderson Emerado, North Dakota Remains in Bloom, 2026 Digital drawing 40 x 30 inches $1,200 – 1,400 Matthew B. Anderson is a North Dakota artist who works primarily in drawing and digital painting. His work is rooted in close observation of plants, landscape, light, memory, and the small details that are easy to pass by. He holds an MFA in Drawing from the University of North Dakota and has spent much of his career working in the arts as an artist, educator, and arts administrator. Throughout that work, he keeps coming back to making images and to the simple act of paying attention. Reflecting on this work, the artist states, Remains in Bloom, grew out of looking closely at wild plants and flowers and letting the image stay somewhere between finished and unfinished. I like leaving some of the drawing visible; the searching lines, loose marks, and forms that haven’t fully resolved. That feels closer to the way I actually experience memory and change. Some things come sharply into focus while others fade, overlap, or remain incomplete. The bright flowers against the darker field became a way of thinking about what continues to hold color, beauty, and life even as everything around it changes.
